In my 7 years riding the roller coaster of allowing my dreams and running a business all while moving what feels like 100 times and having two kids in between has been well...challenging to say the lest but also SUPER rewarding.

I think the one thing I have found is that you can never make too many mistakes they just strengthen your knowledge and make for an even stronger business each time..I'm still making mistakes and learning everyday but I love my business and if you told me it would take 7 years to be able to make an income and pull my husband from his job to work on it with me would have laughed in your face and said..yeah right give me 12 months! So, so naive at 25 years old. So that's the other thing, I ventured into my business at a young age and I had no one to tell me not to do it which was really great for me but then I ended up being easily manipulated into partnerships with people who wanted my time and my money but not do anything to really help me.

Lucky for me god had another plan…..And he is now my husband. :)

One day, I meet the ying to my yang in business and we have been a team ever since. He does what I’m not in “love with” in the business and I do what he thinks is amazing but feels he could never carry so we are perfect partners in business.

My fields are varied and I have learned the hard way on all of them..in fact I took them on in my business so I could help other small or start up businesses not go through the same (excuse my potty mouth) CRAP lies, over charging, charging for no reason, telling me what I want to hear, not what's true, time lines that blew out for over 6 months...the list goes on. So what is my bread & butter? Film Production, Animation videos, Graphics and branding identity and websites. Yup, all the fun SUPER important tools you need for your business but what is sometimes so difficult to find and work out. People opt to waste time and energy doing it themselves or worse they find an over priced business to run it for them and just watch money go down the drain. Angry Chicken Media is in the middle, we are not the cheapest because what we do is good and its cost money to be skilled and professional but we are certainly not the most expensive.

I personally though have been in one end of the business and needed to find logo and branding designs, animation videos, filming, website design..before I offered all these areas with my team of superstar experts who I train, love and coach I had to try find these businesses and services and then I too tried the DIY option. Nightmare! Oh so many wasted hours just trying to create my own content to fit a theme, using over seas freelancers to build me a logo but hating it..list goes on.! Like I said, so many mistakes.

Now I get to be in control of my clients destiny and I know I’m trust worthy, well priced and best of all I care…so much so I’m up researching and looking around on things for my clients after hours. I’m a sucker for punishment but I do it because I LOVE my job I even do this for FREE. In the beginning I basically door knocked down Port Melbourne venues and said can I film you for free and present for you? Guess what? I had 100% yes rate! But I do recall some people wondering what on earth I could film in this tiny cafe or restaurant they had..”I only have table and chairs” oh how times have changed. Everyone knows now how powerful film is for a business and we are kicking some serious butt in this area..we even have been able to afford to add a drone to our film area so our footage is TVC level now and rising.

So enough abuot me and business lets talks stats and get on track a bit here. So, did you know you only have 8 secs to grab your audience's attention in an online world? Tight spot right? So you need good graphics and content that engages your audience so they stick around long enough to see the “call to action” that's nearly always at the end. Did you also know that the brain takes in visual information 80,000 times faster than text? Yup, few pictures are really telling a bigger picture and getting a lot more attention.

Here is a few of my top OOPS! moments I made in business or my clients have come to me with so you can see where I’m truly coming from and hopefully it helps you tick off some of these mistakes too.

The Angry Chicken Media OOPS list

Made a video on my mobile phone, added it to social networks and you tube got less than 100 views and no leads or sales - ( people only want to watch home videos when they are HOME videos, don’t go wasting time trying to whip up a video they are boring to watch and they are called “Talking heads” videos for a reason they give no particular message and don’t stimulate and worse they make your business look cheap and home-based).
Use my own $50 template on Wordpress and went ahead with making my own website- hosting and domain name set up and creation is a nightmare- I had to learn from scratch..um I’m not in website design I’m in filming ( back then I only offered film) so I wasted hours and hours learning, on chat rooms getting frustrated with no help, trying to make content fit to a design that was “pre designed” for purchase and was never made to fit my content but I assumed the demo page looked amazing and so will my website page…so very wrong!
Went and got quotes for a website design and budgeted $10k in the hopes it would be so much less! Got quoted $20k, $16K and then $7k! bonus I'll take the $7K - hated the website, took months and months with no result and still had to pay this business $1k per month till the bill was cleared…Cry! The very reason I went into website design in the first place!
Needed a logo, so I asked my friend's, cousin's, best mate who’s dog walker's mum offered logo design to help me and did a freebie…Horrible and no connection to me or my business. No money lost but a lot of time and frustration.
Took on a business partner before I even made an income or knew the ins and outs of my business. Bad move, they pimped out my filming services for free everywhere and built me a logo I liked at the time but just let me work 40 hours a week on the business while they just waited for my success to eventuate…needless to say, I left them and moved on - new name and more services to boot!
Use free graphics tools to create a poster.. I thought I'm creative should be easy enough…WRONG! Need to pay for the real stuff and even then had to learn how to use it and work it and source my own images…then bought stock images. $50 later my poster still looked terrible and I posted it and wondered why I got no feedback. Bad graphics and images that don’t fit in well show it's DIY, or you have not got a good eye for your own brand and what message your want your poster to convey. So many NASTY and BAD graphics designers out there - another reason I offer this now. I trust all my own designs with my graphics guy he’s AMAZING - we Skype video chat about a project and he sends me some concepts and Bam! I love it and one revision later my client's are usually in love with the design and only tweaking some text here and there..just the dream graphics designer and he’s all mine mwahahah..oh and yours if you use our graphic services!
Asked any business for an animation video quote. Surely that's not an Oops? Yes I don’t have $3k for just cartoons dong something cute for 1.5mins! So expensive, right? We are under $1500 for a full video and I love all our animations they are so cute, fun and engaging and make great marketing tools!

I think that about covers it. That's me and my journey in creative media and I’m sure I have another hundreds oops to make, but we are in a great place in business and I live for my clients and my projects - so watch this space!
